Assam Cabinet Minister and senior United People's Party Liberal (UPPL) leader Urkhao Gwra Brahma made significant political remarks today during an interaction with the media at a training and awareness programme organised by the BTR government at Golagaon, Baksa district.
Speaking on current political alignments, Brahma stated, “The UPPL stands united on one side, while all other parties seem to be gathering on the other. We don’t fight anyone, but everyone appears to be gearing up to fight against UPPL.”
He asserted the growing strength of the UPPL, calling it a "very powerful" force now. Brahma also addressed the possibility of an alliance with the Bodoland People's Front (BPF), saying, “For the past year, UPPL has kept in mind the larger emotional and national interest of the Bodo people. If Hagrama Mohilary comes forward, we are ready to consider a meaningful alliance.”

He made it clear that UPPL does not consider BPF or Congress a "factor" to be concerned about. Regarding the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Brahma stated, “We are not worried about BJP either. Even Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and BJP leader Dilip Saikia have said BJP will not claim BTC.”
Taking a jab at former BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary, he said, “Hagrama ruled BTC for 17 years. He never faced bad days. But during those times, he never looked at us positively, nor did he try to help us.”
He further mentioned, “Even during the BTR Accord, we sought Hagrama’s support, but he didn’t cooperate.”
Despite past differences, Brahma emphasised UPPL's openness to talks, saying, “If there's a genuine call for alliance from BPF, we are ready from all sides.”
The minister’s statements come at a time when political equations in the Bodoland region appear to be shifting ahead of the upcoming BTC elections.
