UPPL workers protest, burn party flags in Assam's Chirang over ticket denial to Dr. Brahma

A section of United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) workers in Assam's Chirang district staged a strong protest after the party denied a ticket to Dr. Sangrang Brahma from the 14 No. Chirang Duar constituency.

Angry over the party’s decision, UPPL workers expressed their disappointment by burning party flags and shouting slogans in protest. Many of the aggrieved workers also tendered their resignations from the party, accusing the leadership of ignoring grassroots voices and loyal party members.

Dr. Sangrang Brahma, a prominent youth leader and former OSD to BTR Chief Executive Member Pramod Boro, was seen as a strong contender for the constituency. His supporters within the party had expected his nomination. However, the party’s announcement of Khampa Borgoyari as the official candidate has sparked outrage among Brahma’s followers.

“This is a betrayal to those who have worked tirelessly to build the party at the ground level. Dr. Sangrang Brahma deserved the ticket,” said one of the protesting workers.

The protests have drawn attention to growing internal dissatisfaction within the UPPL, especially in key constituencies ahead of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections. The party leadership has yet to issue a statement in response to the protests and resignations.
