Visible growth, ground support: As polls near, Morigaon’s Bogoriguri signals strong support for sitting MLA
As political activity gradually builds ahead of the 2026 Assam Assembly elections, grassroots sentiment in parts of Morigaon constituency is increasingly reflecting a strong pro-incumbency mood. Residents of Bogoriguri area, newly included in the Morigaon Assembly constituency following delimitation, have expressed widespread satisfaction with the developmental initiatives undertaken by sitting MLA Ramakanta Deuri, crediting him for visible infrastructure growth and sustained community engagement.
Although the residents of Bogoriguri—under the Paghaligaon Panchayat—have not yet exercised their franchise in an Assembly election since their inclusion in the constituency, locals say development work in the area has progressed irrespective of electoral considerations. “We have not voted for him yet, but even without our votes, he has ensured development here. That speaks for itself,” said a conscious citizen of the locality while speaking to the media.
According to residents, projects sanctioned under the Assam Darshan scheme are currently underway at a rapid pace, with construction work clearly visible on the ground. Locals maintain that the pace and quality of execution have significantly improved public infrastructure in the area.
At the same time, residents voiced strong objections to a recent report published by a news portal that claimed Bogoriguri had a naamghar only “on paper.” Dismissing the report as misleading, locals clarified that Morigaon district has multiple localities with similar names, and the report appears to have stemmed from a geographical misidentification. “The naamghar in our area exists physically and is well known to everyone here. Development works are visible and ongoing,” residents asserted.
Beyond government-backed schemes, locals highlighted the MLA’s personal outreach to economically weaker sections. They recalled that even prior to his election as an MLA, Ramakanta Deuri—during his tenure as Chief Executive Member of the Tiwa Autonomous Council—had played a key role in facilitating the construction of a community stage and a naamghar in Bogoriguri.
With the Assembly elections scheduled for 2026, a clear political message appears to be emerging from the area. “For the sake of continued development, we want Ramakanta Deuri to represent us again,” residents said, indicating growing public consolidation around the sitting legislator.
