Visitor returning from Kamakhya Temple allegedly pushed off moving train in Assam’s Bongaigaon, probe underway
A shocking incident involving an out-of-state visitor has been reported from Jogighopa in Assam’s Bongaigaon district, raising fresh concerns over passenger safety and security on railway routes.
According to reports, a group of five friends from Jammu had travelled to Assam to visit the Kamakhya Temple during the annual Ambubachi Mela. After completing their pilgrimage, the group boarded train number 22449 Purvottar Sampark Kranti Express for their return journey.
The incident allegedly occurred after the train crossed the Naranarayan Bridge near Bhatipara in the Jogighopa area. Unidentified miscreants are reported to have pushed one of the passengers from the moving train under circumstances that are currently under investigation.
The injured individual has been identified as Vicky Sharma, a resident of Jammu and Kashmir. He reportedly sustained serious injuries in the incident.
Local residents rushed to the spot and rescued the injured passenger before shifting him to a nearby medical facility. He is currently undergoing treatment at the Chalantapara Community Health Centre.
The incident has triggered concern among local residents and railway passengers alike, with questions being raised over the adequacy of security arrangements for travellers, especially during periods of increased movement linked to major religious events.
Railway Police reached the location soon after receiving information and have initiated an investigation to ascertain the sequence of events and identify those responsible.
Authorities are yet to issue further details regarding the motive behind the alleged attack or whether additional security measures will be introduced following the incident.
