We can't keep feeding Bangladeshis cream, curd and expect them to leave our land: Himanta
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma addressed the gathering at the Women Entrepreneurship Fund Distribution Program in Gopalpara on February 1, making remarks on the “Miya” community.
He said, “It is not easy to deport them, so we will keep troubling them until they leave. We cannot keep feeding them cream and curd and think that they will leave our land. They have to keep facing difficulties; they cannot live in Assam in ease. Till I am the CM, I will not spare any Bangladeshi; I will keep troubling them.”
On a previous comment regarding rickshaw fares, he added, “The term ‘Miya’ refers to illegal immigrants from Bangladesh. So, why are we allowing them to operate rickshaws in our land? I said they should be given Rs 4 instead of Rs 5. But according to the law, they will not be able to operate rickshaws here. In this country, only citizens of India can work, so how can people from Bangladesh work here?”
He also noted that these issues were created during the Congress regime and would take time to resolve.
Alongside these remarks, Dr. Sarma distributed cheques of Rs 10,000 each to 24,000 women entrepreneurs under the women entrepreneurship scheme. Beneficiaries included women from Laxmipur and Balijana blocks of Gopalpara West Assembly constituency.
