"We just want to know facts": Himanta Biswa Sarma seeks clarity on allegations against Gaurav Gogoi

After Assam MP Gaurav Gogoi stated that he would file a case against BJP's false allegations involving his wife, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma responded that it is a separate matter whether Gogoi chooses to file a case or not. "We are not accusing anyone, we just want to know the facts," he said.

Emphasising the need for clarity on a few key points, Sarma raised key concerns:

1. He questioned whether it is true that the MP's wife worked in Pakistan.

2. If Gogoi's British wife, Elizabeth Colburn has taken Indian citizenship.

3. If the Congress Lok Sabha Deputy Leader Gaurav Gogoi had visited Pakistan during the time and if, while meeting the Pakistani ambassador, he had sought permission from the Ministry of External Affairs. He further asked whether Gogoi had debriefed the Ministry about the meeting, as is customary in diplomatic practice.

Citing the points, Sarma noted that after visiting countries like Japan, South Korea, or Singapore, he himself provided the Ministry with details about whom he met and what was discussed. He emphasised that this is standard diplomatic protocol and questioned if Gogoi had followed it.

Sarma further pointed that Gogoi had not addressed the issues of Indian citizenship, his visit to the Pakistan Embassy, or the involvement of young boys and girls who accompanied him.

Sarma clarified that the BJP is not making accusations but simply seeks to know the facts.

"How can ISI and RAW stay in the same house," he asked further stating that there are some serious meanings hiddden in his comment.

The Assam chief minister added that "ISI means Pakistan and RAW means India", dismissing Gogoi's "ideology" that both are friendly nations and can stay together in the same house.

He questioned, "If you are with RAW, why are you with ISI and vice-versa."

Sarma informed that the government recently received information that the MP had, in 2009, visited various locations in Palestine that "people hear about in TV" - like Ramallah, Bethlehem, among others.

Furthermore, he questioned the details of the American NGO felicitating Gogoi's visit.

"We have received another information that an anti-Indian American named George Soris had donated Rs 1 crore directly to the MP's organization named Farm 2 Food, any other details are not known yet," he said, further assuring that there will be no compromise regarding national security.

He reiterated that the matter will be discussed during the Cabinet meeting on February 16, stating, "He has to end the controversies himself, we cannot do the same for him."

"We are not blaming anyone, a few short tweets can solve all the problems," he added.
