The Assam police, on June 6 night, detained at least nine students of Cotton University and B. Borooah College for protesting against the cutting of trees outside Rabindra Bhawan in Guwahati.
During the protest, which was sparked by the felling of trees in the area, workers claimed, 'We’re not cutting the trees, just relocating them,' and continued the process.
The students taken into custody so far have been identified as: Nirankush Nath, Utpala Das, Rajdeep Mohanta, Debabrata Saikia, Naushad Rashid, Alok Noroh, Anindita Das, Ankuman Bordoloi, and Dipshikhar Kalita.
They are currently being held at Latasil Police Station and Panbazar Women’s Police Station.
