“Wherever Akhil Gogoi goes, he will put salt in the milk”: Himanta mocks opposition alliance
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on November 14 ridiculed the opposition alliance in the state, saying it exists “only to fix wedding dates, not for elections.”
Addressing a press conference in Dhemaji, Sarma said the ruling BJP is unfazed, adding that wherever Raijor Dal chief Akhil Gogoi is present, “he will put salt in the milk,” implying that internal friction was inevitable within the opposition camp. “We are not worried about this alliance… an accident will happen,” he remarked.
Commenting on Rahul Gandhi’s role in the Bihar Assembly elections, Sarma reiterated his long-standing jibe that the Congress leader is the “biggest star campaigner for the BJP.” He said, “Wherever Rahul Gandhi goes, the BJP will win there. I said this in Bihar as well. If Rahul comes, it’s confirmed that the BJP will win. If he comes ahead of the Assam Assembly election, then we will win 100 per cent. In Assam, the results will be far better than in Bihar… every member of the House will vote for BJP.”
Targeting the opposition’s presence on the ground, Sarma claimed they were disconnected from the people. “The opposition is not on the ground; they are sitting in Hotel Lily. We are among the public, and we know the public better than them,” he said.
