Why Assam wants land near Guwahati airport; Himanta says no connection with Adani group

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday clarified that the ongoing acquisition of 400-500 bighas of land near Guwahati Airport has no connection with Adani Group, countering media speculation and misinformation.

Speaking to reporters, CM Sarma said the land is being secured to facilitate three landmark projects: a major stadium to strengthen Assam’s growing concert economy, a world-class convention centre on the lines of Delhi’s Bharat Mandapam, and an entertainment zone inspired by Universal Studios.

“Our aim is to build world-class infrastructure near the airport, not to displace locals. There is no question of eviction. This land is being acquired only where genuine investors have already invested,” the Chief Minister said.

He urged residents not to fall for rumours and assured that the move is purely to safeguard land for Assam’s future and to create employment and tourism opportunities.
