Wild animal attacks trigger panic in Assam's Boko; Farmer killed, 6 children injured

A night of terror gripped communities in Assam's Boko after two separate wild animal attacks left one farmer dead and six children seriously injured, prompting widespread concern over human–wildlife conflict in the region.

In the first incident, a 65-year-old farmer, identified as Ranjit Rabha of Mouchoa village under Hahim, lost his life in a wild elephant attack around midnight on Sunday, December 7 . Rabha was guarding his paddy field when the elephant suddenly charged at him, killing him on the spot. Forest personnel from the Bondapara Range Office and police officials from Hahim immediately reached the location and recovered the victim’s body.

In a separate and deeply unsettling episode on Monday morning, residents of Ghoramara under the Chamaria Constituency were thrown into panic after a rabid fox attacked several children in the area. Six minors sustained serious injuries during the rampage. Among the injured are three-year-old Hafiza Khatun, daughter of Hakim Ali of Ghoramara, and six-year-old Amirul Ali, son of Abul Kalam Azad of Manjuribil.

All injured children were rushed to the Goraimari Community Health Centre for urgent medical care. Due to the severity of her injuries, Hafiza Khatun was later referred to the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital for advanced treatment.

The dual wildlife incidents have sparked fear throughout the region, with residents voicing deep anxiety about the safety of children and demanding immediate intervention from forest and district authorities to prevent further attacks.
