Woman allegedly assaulted by group over pond dispute in Assam’s Nagaon
A woman was allegedly assaulted and subjected to molestation by a group of people following a dispute over a pond in Tinsukia village under Juria police station in Assam’s Nagaon district. The incident, which reportedly took place in broad daylight on Tuesday, October 6, was captured on camera.
According to a complaint filed with Juria police, the dispute dates back around seven years. Nurul Amin of Tinsukia had allegedly taken a pond on mortgage from Mubarak Ali, a resident of the same village, and remained in possession of it. The complaint alleges that Mubarak Ali’s elder brother, Zakir Hussain, later attempted to take control of the pond.
The dispute had reportedly led to repeated arguments and physical altercations between the two families. Nurul Amin had also previously approached Juria police with a complaint against Zakir Hussain’s family, according to the allegations.
The latest incident allegedly occurred when Nurul Amin went to the pond on Tuesday. He was reportedly stopped by Zakir Hussain and others. His wife was subsequently surrounded and allegedly attacked by a group. The complaint alleges that her clothes were torn and that she was subjected to inappropriate physical contact.
A video of the alleged assault has also surfaced, purportedly capturing the incident.
Nurul Amin has named five people in his complaint: Zakir Hussain, Adilur Rahman, Atiq Mustafa, Aleha Khatun and Afia Khatun.
Juria police have initiated a preliminary investigation. The allegations and the circumstances leading to the incident are expected to be established through the investigation.
