Woman alleges deception, forced conversion and abuse in Assam's Nagaon
A woman from Bebejia in Assam's Nagaon district has lodged a police complaint alleging that she was deceived into marriage by a man who concealed his marital status and later subjected her to physical and mental abuse.
According to the FIR filed at Nagaon Sadar Police Station, the woman, an educated Assamese resident of Bebejia, was in a relationship with Ashadul Islam, a resident of Chalchali area. She has alleged that Ashadul introduced himself as an unmarried man and subsequently married her, despite already being married and having a child.
The complainant further alleged that following the marriage, she was subjected to continuous physical and psychological harassment. She claimed that the abuse continued even during her pregnancy.
The woman has also alleged that she was compelled to convert her religion after the marriage and was repeatedly pressured to provide money for business-related purposes.
Prior to her marriage, the woman reportedly operated a beauty parlour near Dhing Gate in Nagaon town.
Seeking legal action, she has filed an FIR at Nagaon Sadar Police Station. Police have initiated an inquiry into the allegations.
Further investigation is underway.
