Woman attacks panchayat president's wife with machete over PM-Kisan payment dispute in Assam's Tinsukia
In a shocking incident, the wife of the Inthem Gaon Panchayat President was allegedly attacked with a sharp machete by a woman reportedly enraged over not receiving benefits under the PM-Kisan scheme.
The incident took place around two days ago in Inthem under the 83rd Margherita Legislative Assembly constituency in Tinsukia district.
According to reports, Lambit Konwar, the president of the Inthem Gaon Panchayat, was away from home when the accused, identified as Rahila Kurmi, wife of Kartik Kurmi, allegedly entered the house armed with a machete.
She allegedly launched a sudden attack on Konwar's wife, repeatedly striking her with the sharp weapon. The victim sustained serious injuries, particularly on her left hand, and was rushed to a hospital, where doctors treated her with eight stitches. Her condition is stated to be stable.
Speaking on the incident, Lambit Konwar clarified that panchayat representatives have no role in the approval or disbursement of funds under the PM-Kisan scheme, as the process is handled entirely by the government through designated authorities.
The incident has triggered widespread condemnation across the Margherita region.
Margherita Police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the attack. Further legal action is underway.
