Woman rescued after alleged public assault by husband in Cachar's Kabuganj market
A woman was allegedly assaulted in public by her husband at Kabuganj Bazaar in Assam's Cachar district, triggering outrage among local residents who intervened to rescue her and alerted the police.
The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon, June 25, on a busy road in the Kabuganj market area under Dholai, drawing the attention of traders, commuters and passersby.
According to eyewitnesses, the man allegedly began physically assaulting his wife in the middle of the road. Shocked by the incident, local residents quickly stepped in, restrained the accused and rescued the woman from further harm.
Upon receiving information, a team from Dholai Police Station led by Officer-in-Charge Sarbeswar Kuwor rushed to the spot. Police subsequently took both the woman and her husband to the police station for questioning and initiated an investigation into the matter.
The incident sparked strong reactions in the market area, with residents condemning the alleged assault and demanding strict legal action against the accused. Locals said such incidents of violence against women must be dealt with firmly to prevent their recurrence.
The case has once again brought attention to the issue of domestic violence and women's safety. Police sources said all aspects of the incident are being examined and appropriate action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
