Women’s reservation reflects commitment to empowerment: Assam deputy speaker Numal Momin
Deputy Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly, Numal Momin, has welcomed the Centre’s move on the women’s reservation bill and the proposed delimitation exercise, stating that the measures would strengthen democratic representation and governance.
Speaking on the issue, Momin said the provision of 33 per cent reservation for women in legislatures reflects the commitment of the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi towards enhancing women’s participation in policymaking. He noted that increased representation would provide women a greater role in shaping national priorities and legislative outcomes.
On delimitation, Momin said the proposed increase in parliamentary seats would reduce the size of constituencies, allowing Members of Parliament to engage more closely with constituents. He added that smaller constituencies could contribute to more responsive governance and improved delivery of public services.
Momin further stated that the combined impact of women’s reservation and delimitation would lead to broader representation across regions and communities. He emphasised that these reforms are expected to contribute to more inclusive decision-making processes and support balanced development.
