Women’s workforce representation set to emerge as key electoral issue: Gaurav Gogoi

Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi on Tuesday, January 6 underscored the growing political consciousness among women across India, stating that issues affecting society at large, particularly those linked to women in the labour workforce, are poised to become a decisive factor in the upcoming elections.

Addressing the media in the national capital, Gogoi noted that an increasing number of women, both in rural regions and urban centres, are actively participating in the labour force, yet their concerns remain inadequately represented in decision-making platforms. He emphasised that ensuring meaningful representation for working women in labour unions and policy frameworks must be prioritised by political stakeholders.

“The participation of women in the workforce is no longer confined to traditional roles. Their voices need to be heard on matters ranging from health and welfare to professional rights and workplace security,” Gogoi said, adding that political parties must address these issues with seriousness and sensitivity.

He further remarked that women voters are increasingly evaluating electoral narratives through a broader social lens, making workforce-related challenges a central issue rather than a peripheral concern. According to Gogoi, the upcoming elections will test how effectively parties respond to the aspirations and grievances of working women across sectors.
