'Worst Congress president": BJP leader Dilip Saikia takes aim at Gaurav Gogoi
Political war of words in Assam escalated on Monday, February 9, as Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Assam president Dilip Saikia trained guns on Assam Pradesh Congress Committee chief and Lok Sabha MP Gaurav Gogoi, predicting that he would go down as the “worst and most unsuccessful” Congress president in the party’s history following the 2026 Assembly elections.
Addressing a BJP Yuva Morcha conference in Rangia, Saikia accused Gogoi of indulging in what he termed “appeasement politics” and alleged that the Congress leader’s political standing was sustained by divisive strategies rather than public mandate.
Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the event, the state BJP president reiterated his allegations regarding Gogoi’s purported links with Pakistan and said such issues had eroded the credibility of the Assam Congress leadership.
“After the 2026 elections, the people of Assam will realise who has failed them. Gaurav Gogoi will be remembered as the worst and most unsuccessful Congress president in the party’s history,” Saikia asserted.
