The Youth Congress and National Students' Union of India (NSUI) launched a massive protest against the tragic death of Congress member Mridul Islam.
The demonstration, held outside Indira Bhavan in Sribhumi city, saw protesters burn an effigy of the Chief Minister, symbolizing their anger and demand for justice.
Youth Congress State Secretary Subhajit Chakraborty, speaking during the protest, called for immediate accountability from the government, condemning the alleged mishandling of the protest that led to Islam’s demise. Chakraborty emphasized the party's determination to continue their fight for a judicial inquiry into the incident.
"Yesterday, Pradesh Congress launched a protest rally for several issues including smart meters, Adani issue and Manipur in Guwahati. Following directions by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, one of our senior party members and senior advocate Mridul Islam was killed by spraying tear gas by Assam Police. We condemn the incident vehemently. You left Congress and joined BJP after eating, serving the party, And now after becoming the member of the BJP, you are running your government. We will give the answer to this incident in 2026", said Subhajit Chakraborty.
