Youth jumps into Brahmaputra River in Guwahati; Police, SDRF begin search

A young man reportedly jumped into the Brahmaputra River near the Ganesh Temple at Hatisila in the Panikhaiti area of Guwahati.


The individual has been identified as Cham Das, a resident of Patharkuberi in Narengi. According to initial reports, Das had visited the temple earlier in the day, but the motive behind his sudden leap into the river remains unclear.


Authorities were alerted soon after the incident, prompting a swift response from the Panikhaiti Police and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF). Search and rescue operations are currently underway as officials work to locate the youth and gather further information.


Investigations are ongoing, and officials have not ruled out any possibilities, including a potential mental health crisis. Eyewitness accounts and CCTV footage from the temple premises are also being examined to reconstruct the sequence of events.
