Zubeen chargesheet vs Post Malone show: AJP says Assam govt “celebrating and investigating” at same time

Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) president Lurinjyoti Gogoi, while addressing a press conference in Morigaon, strongly criticised the Himanta Biswa Sarma–led state government over its handling of the Zubeen Garg death case and the upcoming Post Malone concert in Guwahati.

Gogoi alleged that although the government has announced plans to file the SIT chargesheet in the Zubeen Garg case, it is simultaneously preparing to host what he termed a “state-sponsored” event featuring international pop singer Post Malone on December 8.

He reiterated AJP’s earlier demand that such celebrations be halted until justice is delivered for Zubeen Garg.

“We have repeatedly said that until Zubeen gets justice, events of this scale should not take place. But the government has turned a blind eye because its leaders and their families have personal interests in these affairs,” he said.

Criticising the government for commercialising large concerts, he claimed, “They did the same with A.R. Rahman and Diljit Dosanjh shows—tickets were handed to contractors to sell for profit. The same thing is happening again. On one hand, Guwahati will indulge in festivities with Post Malone, and on the other hand, a section of people will be anxiously waiting for the SIT’s chargesheet. We strongly condemn the Post Malone show.”

Gogoi further accused the Chief Minister of making prejudicial statements about the case. “Before the SIT was even formed, the Chief Minister declared that Zubeen was murdered. Now again, before the chargesheet is submitted, he is repeating the same line. This can influence how the court views the case. Daal mein kuchh kaala hai. If Zubeen was murdered, it means someone powerful is involved. That is why the Chief Minister is being extremely careful in his statements.”
