Zubeen Garg’s songs featured in traditional Oja-Pali performance in Assam's Abhayapuri
In a unique blend of tradition and modern tribute, songs of Assam’s beloved singer Zubeen Garg were incorporated into a traditional Oja-Pali performance held in Abhayapuri.
Oja-Pali, one of Assam’s prominent folk cultural traditions, is gradually fading with time. However, in an effort to revive and sustain this rich heritage, a cultural troupe from Mushalpur in Baksa district staged a performance in Abhayapuri, bringing renewed attention to the art form.
The performance was primarily based on the mythology of Goddess Manasa, a common theme in Oja-Pali traditions. What made the event distinctive was the inclusion of Zubeen Garg’s songs, through which the troupe paid tribute to the iconic artist.
By blending contemporary musical elements with a traditional storytelling format, the performers not only honoured Zubeen Garg, often regarded as the heartbeat of Assamese identity but also showcased an innovative approach to preserving folk culture.
The initiative was widely appreciated for bridging generations and keeping the essence of Assamese cultural heritage alive.
