Meghalaya got its first health and wellness centres (HWC) when two such centres were formally inaugurated by Nongpoh legislator Mayralborn Syiem at Marngar and Umden in Ri Bhoi district on Sunday after upgrading the existing primary health centres (PHC) there.
Speaking on the occasion, Syiem thanked the health and family welfare department for its initiative in transforming the PHCs in HWCs, which is part of an initiative of the Central government.
The Centre proposes to convert health centres of the country to HWCs wherein, besides healthcare, facilities will be also made available to provide yoga courses, meditation, etc.
The inauguration programme was also attended by Ri Bhoi district Deputy Commissioner Rosetta Mary Kurbah, Director of Health Service (Research) cum Nodal Officer of NPCDCS LM Pdah, District & Medical Health Officer M Mawrie, District Surveillance Officer AJ Syiemlieh and other senior officials, beside local people.
