LUCKNOW: Three elderly women who went to a government hospital for Covid vaccine were instead given anti-rabies shots in Uttar Pradesh's Shamli district on Thursday.
After the incident, the facility's medical superintendent has been alerted.
After returning from a Community Health Centre, Shamli, Saroj (70), Anarkali (72) and Satyawati (60) became ill.

According to sources, after an investigation, the state government admitted to making a mistake.
“A probe has been ordered following the incident,” said District Magistrate (DM) Jasjit Kaur.
According to the sources, the three women went to the health centre to get the Covid shot. They arrived at the general OPD instead of the Covid vaccination centre on the first floor.
The on-duty pharmacist had gone to do some important work and had delegated the task of administering the anti-rabies vaccine to a private person who is a Jan Aushadhi Kendra pharmacist.
Without reviewing any papers, the individual injected the anti-rabies vaccine into the three women, the DM added.

Ms Kaur said, "I have instructed the CMO (Chief Medical Officer) to suspend the pharmacist."
The case of neglect has surfaced at a time when the state of Uttar Pradesh, like many others, is experiencing a spike in coronavirus cases.
The state has registered a total of 9,695 new cases, which is a new high. Lucknow, the state capital, has announced an all-time high of 2,934 cases and 14 deaths.
