SHILLONG: A six months pregnant nurse tragically succumbed to the COVID-19 in Meghalaya on Sunday, reports said.
Manisha Turnia, a staff nurse at Ganesh Das Hospital in Shillong, was reportedly working at the hospital despite being pregnant in direct contravention of the Meghalaya government’s order on pregnant health workers.
It needs mention here that the Meghalaya government in a notification on May 17 exempted women employees who are pregnant from attending official duties during the COVID-19 induced lockdown.
Meghalaya health minister AL Hek has reportedly sought a detailed report on the circumstances that led to the death of the pregnant nurse.
On the other hand, Director of Health Services (MI) Dr. Aman Warr claimed that the staff nurse was not doing performing COVID-19 duties.
Meanwhile, Congress MLA Ampareen Lyngdoh has demanded an inquiry into the incident.
