IMPHAL: A 76-year-old grandma from rural Manipur has become an unlikely star of the International Yoga Day after a video showing the septuagenarian performing a few yoga poses went viral on social media.
Twitter user Neha Gurung yesterday posted about Santa Devi Poudyal from Manipur's Thoubal district, urging prime minister Narendra Modi to take heed of her. According to Gurung, the old lady has been performing yoga for several years now.
"76 years Santa Devi Poudyal, from Serou Manipur, northeast. Performing yoga every day since 2007. She’s healthy, fit, and very strong," Gurung wrote. She also tagged prime minister Narendra Modi in the post.
The video of the Manipur woman has proved to be a hit among netizens who have used adjectives like "amazing" to describe her dedication to yoga.
The video has been 'liked' by 200 users and 25 Twitterati were so impressed that they retweeted it.
The International Day of Yoga has been celebrated annually on 21 June since 2015, following its inception in the United Nations General Assembly in 2014. Yoga is a physical, mental and spiritual practice that originated in India.
On the seventh edition of International Yoga Day, Indian Twitter users flooded the platform with pictures and videos of them performing their favorite asanas. The prime minister Narendra Modi also shared many of the posts by Twitter users, while lauding their dedication towards the ancient Indian discipline.
