GANGTOK: At least 97 cases of the Delta variant of COVID-19 have been reported in Sikkim, said state Health Minister, M K Sharma in a press conference held in the capital this evening.
Out of 98 random samples sent to Kalyani, West Bengal for the test, 97 have been reported to be infected with the Delta variant of COVID-19.
Following the rising cases in the state, Minister, M K Sharma has urged its state's people to go for early testing if any symptoms are observed.

The Delta variant was primarily responsible for the country's second COVID-19 outbreak accounting for more than 80 % of new cases.
The variant is also 40-60% more transmissible than its predecessor, the Alpha form, and has spread to over 80 countries.
