AGARTALA: Pradyot Manikya, the chairman of TIPRA and head of the erstwhile royal house of Tripura, has decided to forego an official vehicle as it has "never been his desire to get positions and post."

Manikya had earlier opted not to take the salary availed by him as a member of the Tripura Tribal Autonomous District Council (TTADC). Pradyot, who won from the Takarjala-Jampuijala constituency with an overwhelming majority, says that the money will instead go towards fighting the COVID-19 pandemic in his home state.

"It has never been my desire to get positions and post. I have already decided to forgo my salary for one year, today I am making it clear that I will not be availing any official car which was to be allotted to me. God has been kind to me and I will use my own vehicle for my travel," he posted on Twitter.

It needs mention here that Pradyot-led TIPRA and its ally Indigenous Nationalist Party of Twipra (INPT) won 18 out of the 23 seats they contested, while the BJP won nine.

The TTAADC covers 68 per cent of the total geographical area of Tripura, and is home to over one-third of the total state population. The district council has a total of 30 seats, of which 28 are for elected members, while two are nominated by the governor of Tripura
