Aizawl, October 5, 2019:

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, during his maiden visit, inaugurated the North East Handloom and Handicraft Exhibition 2019 at the Government Mizo High School field at Zarkawt in Aizawl.

This first ever, three day North East Handloom and Handicraft Exhibition is fully funded by the North Eastern Council and hosted by the Government of Mizoram. Mizoram has invited all the North Eastern states including Sikkim for participation in the event.

Besides participation from state government departments, participation from organisations such as North East Handloom and Handicraft Development Corporation Shillong, Cane and Bamboo Technology Centre Assam, Nagaland Bamboo Development Agency and craftsmen and weavers from the north east will be featured in the event.

Shah met Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga, as well as some NGOs. It may be mentioned here that the People’s Representation for Identity and Status of Mizoram (PRISM) Party and Mizoram People’s Conference (MPC) Party conducted street demonstrations in capital city Aizawl to protest the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill amidst the visit of Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The parties also submitted a memorandum to Shah urging him exempt Mizoram from the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill.
