During the unprovoked belligerence by the Chinese at Nathu La and Cho La in August and September 1967 respectively, General Sagat Singh displayed leadership of the highest order and gave a befitting reply to the Chinese.
Due to his resolute outlook, the Indian Army stood firm at these two passes and showed to the Nation and the World that such hostile acts by the Chinese would not go unchallenged.
The Tri-Colour continues to flutter with pride today at Natu La because of the grit, determination, and farsightedness of the officer and our Nation shall always remain grateful to him. Indeed, he shall always be remembered as ‘The Iron Man of Natu La’.
