GANGTOK: Indian Army with timely and prompt action yesterday rescued over 447 tourists who were stuck at Nathu La, on the high reaches near the India-China border due to sudden heavy snowfall.
The tourists were stuck on the Nathu La - Gangtok road after a severe snowstorm and sub-zero temperatures on Thursday.
The tourists were in 155 vehicles that were stuck over a distance of 15 kilometers which started skidding after the snowstorm.

"The tourists were rescued in army vehicles and accommodated inside the barracks of 17 Mile Military Camp", an official informed.
All tourists were given lodging while 26 had to be hospitalised and required medical assistance. No serious injuries or fatalities have been reported.
"Despite extreme weather and circumstances, the brave hearts of the Indian Army rescued tourists and provided shelter, food, and medical support," the official added.
