ASSAM: CELEBRATION OF BAIKHO FESTIVAL AT KENDUGURI VILLAGE

Rabha tribal community's religious festival 'Baikho' was successfully concluded at Kenduguri Village near Boko, Assam on 5th June. Every year the Rabha tribal villagers celebrate 'Baikho festival'.

Priests of the Rabha tribal community run over burning charcoal as they perform rituals during the festival. The festival is celebrated for the well-being of the community and for a good harvest.

“Baikho is a religious festival in which we pray our Goddess to save our livestock (animals) and agriculture. Earlier our forefathers celebrated this festival ever year with strict customs. But in between we left this customs as we are depending on other business. But now we realize without agriculture ‘Rabha’ could not survive and so we now regularly offer puja to ‘Baikho’ every year which is known as Baikho festival also.”, said Hiteswar Rabha, President of Kamrup district, All Rabha Students' Union (ARSU).

Siddartath Goswami, ADC, Kamrup rural, Pinki Dutta, SDC of Boko circle, Aditi Gogoi, SDC joint of Boko Circle office, Jogendra Barman, OC of Boko Police Station, Ramen Singh Rabha, President of ARSU, Tarun Hato, Chairman of RHAC (Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council), Ramakanta Rabha, Vice executive of RHAC, Sumit Rabha, Executive member of RHAC, Arjun Chetry, general member of RHAC were took part as guest in the festival.
