Deputy Commissioner, Hailakandi, Adil Khan directed the PWD to start repairing of the roads damaged due to the deluge on a war footing, today.

Reviewing the status of progress of different departments at the monthly District Development Committee meeting at his office conference hall here, Deputy Commissioner Khan directed the officials of road constructing agencies to start repairing of the dilapidated roads damaged due to the recent deluge, as the flood waters have receded in most parts of the district. The Deputy Commissioner asked the PWD official to expedite the completion of the Samarikona to Kalacherra, Algapur to Mohonpur and Bilaipur roads on Friday.

Khan also instructed the official of PWD (Building) to complete the construction of the polytechnic institute, ITI at Kuchila, veterinary hospital, model hospital, circle offices at Lala and Algapur, girls’ hostels at Jamira and Lala, besides repairing of the flood hit Kalinagar Block PHC.

The Deputy Commissioner instructed the Public Health Engineering, Hailakandi division, to operationalise the piped water supply schemes (PWSS) affected by floods. Of the 312 PWSS, 115 are currently functional, some fully and partially. Khan also asked the official to complete the four ongoing mega PWSS at Lala, Bowerighat, Sheralipur and Panchgram. Order to strictly enforce the ban on fishing during the breeding season has been passed to the Fisheries department.

The officer informed that mosquito and other fishing equipment have been confiscated for violation of the order. Construction of the wholesale fish market at Herbertganj has been completed and the one at Sahabad is under way. Directing the DTO to regularize and streamline the plying of e-rickshaws, Khan said no new e-rickshaws must be allowed to ply in the municipal areas of Hailakandi town and that the numbers of the battery operated rickshaws must be brought down to ease the flow of traffic in the town. Around 1350 e-rickshaws plying in the town causing traffic snarls at the main thoroughfares of the town.

Khan asked the DTO to tie up with the Hailakandi Municipal Board to fix up the number of e-rickshaws that would ply in the town areas and the rest on the fringes within seven days. He directed the DTO to ensure that no dealers could sell any e-rickshaw without route permit.
