DHUBRI: The body of the forest ranger of Dhubri Forest Department was found hanging from the ceiling in his official quarter premises in Balurchar at Dhubri district of Assam this morning.

Police suspected it to be a case of suicide, an official said.

The deceased man has been identified as Binod Kumar Nath (57), a resident of Abhyapuri.

The Ranger's door was closed early in the morning, so the staff made phone calls but received no response. They also knocked on the door but received no response from the other side, the official further said.

After an hour, the staff reported to Dipak Chandra Deka, Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Dhubri that the ranger was not opening the door.

They later found the ranger's body hanging from the ceiling after peering through the glass window.

Dipak Chandra Deka immediately asked the staff to file an FIR to the local police station.

Later, Dhubri district Additional Superintendent of Police (SP), Roji Rani Sharma, Officer in Charge, Partha Pratim Gogoi of Dhubri Sadar police station entered the quarter of Nath in presence of the Executive Magistrate Dhubri and staff and recovered the body.

According to police, they discovered an apparent suicide note in which Nath stated that he was suffering from severe mental stress and that he is solely responsible for his death, not blaming anyone else.

However, police have refrained from disclosing more and states that they will be investigating the matter from all fronts and the body has been sent for post mortem, to Dhubri Civil Hospital.
