26 July 2018:

As Assam gears up to publish the “complete draft” of National Register of Citizens (NRC), Deputy Commissioner of Hailakandi, Adil Khan, has sought the support of people in the district for the maintenance of peace and tranquillity.

He appealed to people not to be swayed by misinformation canards spread by some anti-national elements and cooperate fully with the administration to ensure a correct and flawless NRC. He said the final draft NRC would be displayed in all the NRC Seva Kendras from 10 am of July 30.

“The administration will facilitate necessary arrangements to ensure people can have a close look at the draft NRC without any hassle,” said Khan.

He also said that those whose names would not figure in the draft NRC would get enough opportunities to file claims from August 30 to September 28 and the forms would be available at all NSKs from August 7.

“All Indian citizens whose names are excluded in the second list of NRC will get enough scope to prove their credentials for incorporation of their names,” the DC said.

“It is only a draft and not final NRC. There is no need to panic. Genuine Indian citizens will not be left out of NRC. We are reviewing the security arrangements as ensuring peace in the district is a top priority for the administration,” he said.

Superintendent of Police Mohneesh Mishra said, "Adequate security forces have been deployed in the district to ensure safety and security of the people. Police are also keeping close tabs on the social media”.
