The Hailakandi district administration has chalked out elaborate plans to observe Gram Swaraj Abhiyan (Village Self-Governance Campaign) in a befitting manner across the district beginning April 14 coinciding with the birth anniversary of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.

Convening a meeting with the officials of line departments at his office conference room today, Deputy Commissioner Adil Khan instructed all the officials to make every possible effort to make the campaign ‘meaningful, motivating and informative’ by involving all sections of people including local MLA, MP, religious leaders, prominent citizens, SHGs, PRIs and NGOs.

Various programmes have been lined up to observe Gram Swaraj Abhiyan from April 14 to May 5 with the aim to promote social harmony, reaching out to poor rural households, getting feedback on ongoing programmes, enrolment in new initiatives, focussing on doubling farmers’ income, enhancing livelihood opportunities and re-emphasising national priorities such as cleanliness and strengthening Panchayati Raj Institutions.’

The Deputy Commissioner asked the concerned departments to plan the programmes meticulously and to work in tandem for the success of the campaign. Khan disclosed that two senior officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs would arrive to oversee the programmes in the district. He asked the officials for proper documentation of the activities undertaken during the campaign with pictures and videos for uploading in the Government portal gramswarajabhiyan.nic.in and in the Whatsapp group for the campaign.

Khan also directed the officials of different departments to brief the media about the programmes they will undertake during the campaign. Caste and income certificates to SC families will begin at Matijuri Paikan Gaon Panchayat under Hailakandi Circle from April 14 to 16.
