Hailakandi is bracing up to hold the Legal Awareness Camp for Women in the last part of this month. The camp is to be organised by the Assam State Commission for Women, earlier scheduled for July 10 had to be deferred because of the administration being busy making assessment of the flood related damages and rehabilitation of the thousands of people displaced by the deluge.
A meeting of the District Level Women Cell that was held under the Chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Adil Khan on Thursday has decided to move the Member Secretary, Assam State Commission for Women for conducting the legal camp in the last part of July. Khan underlined the importance of involving the NGOs for generating awareness among the women particularly in rural areas about the rights and privileges guaranteed by the Constitution. He has called for selection of genuine and active NGOs for carrying out awareness programmes in urban and rural areas of the district.
Additional SP, Headquarters, Jagadish Das stressed on organising awareness programmes in prominent places across the district by involving ASHA workers, SHGs and other women organisations.
The members of the District Level Women Cell requested the Superintendent of Police to take appropriate action against sexual harassment of women.
