9 July 2018:
One-day Orientation on Swacch Bharat Summer Internship will be held at the SIRD Extension Centre at Boalipar in Hailakandi on Tuesday. The Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation in association with the Ministry of Human Resource Development and the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has launched the ‘Swachh Bharat Summer Internship – 100 hours of Swachhata by youth’ - a novel and first of its kind initiative.
The internship of at least 100 hours duration has to be conducted from May to July during the summer vacation. “The programme aimed at enrolling students for promoting cleanliness in villages, enhance their skill and introduce them to sanitation-related work and make Swacch Bharat Mission a people’s movement” said District Youth Coordinator, Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS), Hailakandi, SR Deb, adding that the programme would provide a great learning experience to the youth.
Under the internship programme, the activities have been divided into three broad categories - education-communication activities, solid waste management related activities and support in toilet construction. On completion of the summer internship, the best 3 interns/teams of interns will be awarded cash prize and recognition at the state/national level besides incentives, including two academic credits like an optional paper by the University Grants Commission. Resource persons, team leaders and national youth volunteers of NYKS are roped in for conducting the summer internship programme.
Disclosing this, SR Deb also said that he was motivated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s impassioned plea to the youth to devote at least 100 hours to Swachhata on October 2, 2014 and in his Maan Ki Baat programme on April 29 this year, 236 youth consisting of 36 teams enrolled for internship in Hailakandi district.
