Assam Rifles in Manipur bans import of liquor from Myanmar

Joint foot patrolling by local Police and personnel of the 43 Assam Rifles was conducted on Monday in Manipur’s Moreh town due to disturbance caused by alcoholics. SP Kh. Robinsun (MPS), SDPO Sandip Gopal Das (IPS), and DSP CDO Thomas (MPS) led the Assam Rifles party with ten other ranked officials.

The patrol route was Police Station-Hanuman Mandir-Forest Gate-Chikim Veng-Ward 8-Dalpati ground-Ward 1-Ward 2-Ward 5.

Local liquor estimated to be worth Rs. 93,000, imported from neighbouring Myanmar, was recovered from shops. The recovered liquor was crushed as per directives of the excise department.

Liquor has been banned in and around the town since the incident. 43 Assam Rifles at Indo-Myanmar friendship gates 1 and 2 have also banned the importing of alcohol from Myanmar to keep the peace in the border town.
