Assam Rifles troopers rescued four civilians who were kidnapped and recovered arms, ammunition and explosives at New Kaiphundai in Tamenglong district of Manipur on 11-12 January.

During the operation, the troops of the 'Assam Rifles' came under fire from suspected armed cadres who fled when the jawans opened fire. Civilians who had been kidnapped by the militants were then rescued by the troops.
The rescued civilians, along with recoveries, have been handed over to police for further investigation, reports said.

It may be mentioned here that the Assam Rifles are being targetted by separatist outfits in Manipur. Recently, the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) and the Manipur Naga People’s Army (MNPA) claimed to have carried out an attack on the 4 Assam Rifles camp at Khongtal village in Chandel district around 6.30 am on January 7, according to a press release issued jointly by the Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF) and Manipur Naga People’s Front (MNPF) on Wednesday.
