Assam Rifles rescue woman from NSCN-IM kidnappers

Kohima, March 14, 2019:

A team of Chandel Battalion of Assam Rifles rescued a woman from New Wangparal village in Chandel District from two National Socialist Council of Nagaland- Isak Muivah (NSCN-IM) cadres on Tuesday from a school building in the village. The woman was in blindfolds and had been kidnapped a day prior from her village Thamlakhuren.

The team apprehended two suspected NSCN-IM cadres involved in the kidnapping that have identified themselves as self-styled Lt Colonel, Justin Khapai (from GHQ Hebron of NSCN-IM) and self-styled Sergeant Korungthang (of AC Battalion Chandel of NSCN-IM).

The team also seized one AK 47 rifle, one magazine and 27 live rounds of AK 47 rifles from their possession.

The two cadres have been handed over to Chandel Police. An FIR has been lodged against the cadres for kidnapping, attempt to murder and under Unlawful Activities Prevention Act for being in possession of restricted caliber weapon and ammunition.
