IMPHAL: The Assam Rifles' Chandel Battalion rescued two bear cubs from a forest near Larong Khunou Village in Manipur's Chandel district on Saturday.
Assam Rifles forces discovered two suspicious individuals during a routine area check in Larong Khunou hamlet. After witnessing the military, the individuals fled the scene leaving two bagpacks behind. Two bear cubs were found when the bags were searched.
“ASSAM RIFLES RESCUES BEAR CUBS Assam Rifles, 19 Jun rescued two bear cubs being smuggled from a forest near Larong Khunou Vill, Chandel District. Matter was reported to Wildlife Crime Control Bureau and cubs were handed over to People for Animals, NGO in Imphal District, Manipur,”Assam Rifle tweeted.
The incident was promptly reported to Wildlife Crime Control Bureau. Both bear cubs were given up to Imphal-based NGO People for Animals , according to the officials.

Meanwhile, Assam Rifles forces operating under the command of IGAR (South) apprehended three active militants of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) in Chandel district as part of the ongoing crackdown on insurgent operations in Manipur on Saturday.
“ASSAM RIFLES APPREHENDS PLA CADRES IN MANIPUR Sajik Tampak Battalion of #AssamRifles on 19 June, apprehended three PLA Cadres from Rana Top in Chandel District of Manipur,” Assam Rifle tweeted.
According to an official, the military launched an operation in the area based on intelligence inputs and apprehended three PLA terrorists based in Manipur.
According to the sources, the insurgents were handed over to Chakpikarong Police Station for further investigation.
