AIZAWL: Teams of Assam Rifles and the Custom Prevention Force, in a joint operation yesterday, recovered 55 bags of areca nuts in Champhai district of Mizoram.
The areca nuts, which were meant to be smuggled out of the country through the porous Indo-Myanmar international border, are valued at Rs 7.7 lakh.
One person has been arrested in this connection.
There have been many seizures of areca nuts in the state this year alone.
On January 14, areca nuts valued at Rs 3.52 crore were seized in Champhai district.
On January 21, troopers of Assam Rifles seized areca nuts in Eastern Mizoram, which were valued at Rs 6.35 crore.

Again on February 21, troopers of Assam Rifles seized 295 bags of areca nuts in Tlangsam-Rauntlang area valued at Rs 66 lakh.
On March 22, security forces seized 235 more bags of areca nuts, valued at Rs 52.64 lakh, from Rauntlang village in Champhai district.
