Assam shuttler ranked 11th in mixed doubles in WBF World Rankings

GUWAHATI: Ayan Rashid, a 17-year-old shuttler from Assam has been ranked 11^th in the under-19 mixed doubles event partnering 16-year-old Tasnim Mir of Gujarat in the latest BWF World Rankings, the Assam Badminton Association (ABA) said. 

The rankings were announced on January 1. Both the players are trainees at the Assam Badminton Academy here.

Tasnim Mir has also been ranked No. 4 in under-19 girls’ singles in the Badminton World Federation rankings.

Ayan is ranked 54th in the under-19 singles BWF rankings.

The two have been a winning tandem in various international events over the past couple of years.

Ayan’s father Omar Rashid, who is Badminton Association of India’s joint secretary and secretary of ABA, thanked the coaches in the Assam Badminton Academy for the feat of the youngsters.

“I thank the coaches and supports staff of Assam Badminton Academy. I wish the two more success in the coming years,” Rashid said.

"Their rankings would have been among the top five had the under-21 tournaments been held last year. Tasnim is a very promising talent and we are hopeful that she will succeed Saina Nehwal in the international arena," he added.
