One year after Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb said that internet and satellite communication existed during the 'Mahabharata' period, Mizoram chief minister Zoramthanga stated that he would be able to stop insurgency and underground elements of the Northeast region with bamboos!
Speaking at a function on June 11, 2019, which is declared in the state as Green Mizoram Day, the former underground leader Zoramthanga said he would transform the entire region and even root out the insurgency problem with his visionary bamboo project if NITI Aayog would grant him funds.
"Why would the youths of the region take to gun culture if we provide them enough money, bamboo will be the cure of all the underground maladies the region is facing," Zoramthanga said.

An NDA constituent party - the Mizo National Front party chief Zoramthanga also said he would take up his bamboo policy in the next NITI Aayog meeting. Since the formation of the BJP dominated NEDA in May 2016, the MNF has been a constituent of the regional forum, a body of the most regional parties of northeastern states.
BJP leader and Assam Finance and Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is the convener of the NEDA, formed in May 2016.
