GANGTOK: Football superstar Bhaichung Bhutia today issued a clarification about his statement which has triggered protests in his native Namchi.
Releasing a video earlier today, Bhutia has clarified his statement given earlier which seems to have miffed the ruling party. He reiterated that he never said that the hospital should not be built. He only expressed his concern about the location and the timing of it.
"Since the Chief Minister himself said that the hospital would serve the people both of South and West Sikkim, I feel that the location should be shifted to the Jorethang, Karfector area as it is better connected with transportation for both South and West and public of Rangpo, Singtam could also avail the facilities," Bhaichung said.

He added that the 80 crore given to the contractor could have been utilized better to enhance the existing facilities as well as provide some economic relief to taxi drivers, farmers, and poor people. "Hospital can always be constructed after the pandemic is over."
Bhaichung said that although he and his party had consistently opposed the previous regime, SDF had never pulled stunts like burning his effigy.
"We have all worked for bringing Parivartan but we want good Parivartan and not of this kind," he stated.
Thanking all for their support, he appealed to the youth to speak up for the sake of future generations and a better Sikkim.
