GANGTOK: Sikkim's government has extended the lockdown till June 7 in view of the rising cases of coronavirus cases in the state.

Government officials today informed that inter district movement still remain closed. All shops, including liquor retailers, can be kept open from 7 am to 12 pm.

Construction work can be carried provided all labourers are residing locally. Prior permission is to be taken from concerned authority. All local labourers shall be allowed to work.

Meanwhile, the government has said that agricultural works shall be allowed in the green zone.

All shopkeepers in the GMC should have a negative RAT report to open shops.

Sikkim on Saturday reported 273 new Covid-19 cases pushing the tally to 14,907, a health department bulletin said.

The death toll in the Himalayan state rose to 247 after four more patients died of coronavirus, the bulletin said.

According to our sources, the vaccination process has also been delayed due to a shortage in supply.

Sikkim at present has 3,831 active cases.

While 10,616 patients have recovered from the disease so far, 213 others have migrated out of the state.

East Sikkim district registered 183 new positive cases, followed by 54 in South Sikkim, 31 in West Sikkim and 5 in North Sikkim.

The state tested 1,695 samples for Covid-19 in the past 24 hours, taking the total number of such examinations to 1,17,336, the bulletin said.
