BSF apprehends Bangladeshi Police Inspector in Indian territory

COOCHBEHAR: The troops of BOP Changrabandha of 148 Battalion Border Security Force deployed on Indo-Bangladesh border in Cooch behar district of West Bengal, under the leadership of Inspector General of BSF North Bengal Frontier, Ravi Gandhi on September 3 launched a special operation and apprehended one Bangladeshi Inspector of Dhaka Metropolitan Police who was trying to move suspiciously in Indian Territory of Changrabandha.

The troops managed to recovered 4 debit cards and USD – 20 & EURO-15, 2 high end Mobile phones with BD SIM and few medicines. The Bangladeshi Inspector has been identified as Md Seikh Sohel Rana (46 ).

During the preliminary questioning, it was revealed that he started his journey from Dhaka by bus on September 2 and reached Patgram in Lalmonirhat district and on September 3 at 12:30, he crossed over the Indo-Bangladesh border with the help of one Bangladeshi tout namely Babu R/o Patgram (BD) by paying him BD Taka 10000.

It was further revealed that he joined Dhaka Metropolitan Police as a Sub-Inspector in the year 2003 and was placed under suspension along with 21 other police personnel from 2003. The accused informed that his destination was Kathmandu, Nepal.

The Bangladeshi Police Inspector along with seized items has been handed over to Police Station Mekhliganj for further legal action.

Further investigation underway.
