Meghalaya's Government has begun an initiative to take the fight against plastics to a whole new level, which has been announced by the State's Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma.
Announcing this initiative on Facebook, which has been termed as the 'Meghalaya Plastic Challenge', Conrad wrote, "I'm happy to launch the Meghalaya Plastic Challenge, an initiative close to the heart of many Meghalayans to join the global fight for eradication of plastic waste."

"We have developed a structure to recycle and reuse single-use plastics collected in our homes, educational institutions, workplaces, hospitals, markets, etc; and will need active participation of every citizen", he further added.

The Meghalaya Chief Minister has stated that the Meghalaya Plastic Challenge is an initiative that targets to curb the plastic waste menace, which is a global threat. Moreover, the CM stated that the State of Meghalaya is also affected by the menace of plastics.
He stated that the new initiative is directed towards plastic waste management. He also urged the people of the State to take part in the new initiative to make Meghalaya 'clean and green'.
It may be mentioned that the Indian Government is seeking a blanket ban on single-use plastics, which is likely to be implemented on October 2.
