KOHIMA: The Peren civil society organisations on Wednesday demanded arrest of those involved in the March 22 Lamhainamdi triple murder case within 10 days from March 31, as well as the immediate dismissal of the post Commander of 9 IRBn Company, who is currently stationed in Lamhainamdi village.

The Zeliangrong Baudi (Nagaland) and the Nagaland Zeliang People's Organisation submitted a charter of demands to the chief minister of Nagaland, stating that "justice deferred is justice denied”.

“Three brothers have been butchered like animals in our own country over a week ago, and the state government has taken no meaningful action except forming a special investigation team (SIT),” the memorandum said.

“The state government, as well as its district machinery such as the district administration and district police were well aware of the imminent threat, but they chose to ignore it till the fateful day,” they stated.

“This negligence has placed the general public in grave danger today, and it cannot be used as an excuse, at least not after the brutal murders of three people,” the memo added.

“The state government must not be confused, and its residents must not be confused,” it said. A criminal prosecution should not be combined with a dispute over a district boundary or land possession. The victims were tortured before being fired at point-blank range and burnt alongside their cars, as evident from the gruesome mutilated body parts.

Four red-ink written notes were discovered alongside the remains claiming that the heinous murders were carried out in retaliation for defending ancestral land, the civil societies said.
