SASHERGANJ: A Congress candidate in West Bengal has reportedly died today after being infected with the deadly coronavirus.

The deceased has been identified as Rezaul Haque.

Rezaul Haque was contesting the assembly polls from the Samsherganj assembly constituency in Murshidabad.

After testing positive for coronavirus, he was undergoing treatment at a hospital in Kolkata.

After both parties declared candidates for the Samsherganj seat, a battle erupted between the Left Front and Congress. The Left Front nominated Modassar Hossain for the Samsherganj seat, while the Congress chose Rezaul Haque.

Campaigning for the fifth phase of the eight-phase West Bengal assembly elections, which will see 45 seats go to polls on April 17, came to an end yesterday.

Polling for the fifth phase for total 45 seats is scheduled to be held on April 17.
